Remote Learning at Foxwood Academy
Although Foxwood Academy very rarely closes, we recognise that on the rare occasions when on-site learning cannot take place, families need clear, consistent information about how learning will continue. Our approach to remote learning is grounded in our values, our curriculum intent, and our duty to safeguard and support all pupils, including those with complex SEND needs.
When a closure occurs, learning will be communicated directly by the class teacher/Class team. Staff will share clear, accessible guidance with families, ensuring that work is matched to each pupil’s phase and pathway. This means that activities will be personalised, meaningful and aligned with each learner’s EHCP outcomes and curriculum journey, including the full range of subjects—core, wider curriculum and Preparing for Adulthood, where appropriate.
Remote learning at Foxwood is not a replication of classroom teaching. Instead, it is designed to be achievable at home, to reduce pressure on families, and to provide continuity without compromising well-being. Teachers may offer a blend of structured tasks, practical activities, communication-based learning, and sensory or experiential opportunities, drawing on evidence-informed approaches to SEND pedagogy such as scaffolded instruction, small steps, and appropriate levels of cognitive load.
During any period of remote learning, we remain in regular contact with families. This includes welfare check-ins, clarification about learning tasks, and ongoing safeguarding oversight, in line with our statutory duties under Keeping Children Safe in Education 2024 . Staff will continue to work closely with parents and carers to support routines, engagement and well-being, recognising that every home context is different.
If a prolonged closure were ever necessary, Foxwood Academy would continue to provide structured learning, pastoral support and safeguarding contact, ensuring pupils remain connected with school and continue to make progress towards their individual outcomes. Families can contact the school at any time if they require support, advice or further resources.
